North Star was established in Eagle, Idaho in 2003 and since establishment has grown to over 900 students, grades k-12.
 
JOB SUMMARY
  • High School Training and/or experience preferred
  • Must  hold a Secondary education certificate in Spanish
  • Understanding of IDEA compliance requirements
  • Experience in direct instruction
  • Strong skills in collaboration
  • Must be proficient in adapting and modifying curriculum and materials to meet specific needs of children
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be a positive and enthusiastic team player
  • Must have knowledge of Idaho/Federal rules and regulations in special education
  • Must have strong organizational and computer skills
  • Have excellent time-management skills
  • Be able to plan for a wide variety of preps
  • Be resourceful and creative
  • Must be project based driven with some understanding of IB

Head of School, North Star Public Charter School
North Star Public Charter School is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Head of School for the 2011/2012 school year. North Star is an approximately 1000 student, K-12, college-prep school that implements the Harbor method in the elementary grades and International Baccalaureate at the high school. The Head of School will serve as the educational and administrative leader of the school.
 
As the leader of the school the HOS must:
  • Possess high moral, ethical and professional standards;
  • Demonstrate personal qualities which earn respect, confidence, and trust;
  • Possess positive and effective human relations skills, including the ability and desire to listen and communicate in a sensitive and straight-forward manner with Board members, staff, students, and patrons;
  • Clearly articulate North Star Charter purposes, priorities, and issues of public interest to the community and local media;
  • Understand the role of the Board of Trustees as the governing body of the charter school and be committed to doing whatever possible to assist them to function effectively;
  • Manage the resources of the charter school in a manner that assures adherence to budgetary provisions and the maximum effectiveness and efficiency in their use for promoting excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Have knowledge of and exhibit proficiency in the use and management of instructional technology;
  • Possess a strong background in curriculum development and instructional methodology and a commitment to instructional excellence and student achievement;
  • Understand employee/employer relations and the negotiation process with the ability to manage conflict in a positive manner;
  • Have an understanding of the importance of all programs to the growth and development of individual students as well as the overall interest of the school community.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of North Star Public Charter School.
 
This position reports to the Board of Directors.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
  • Valid Idaho Administrator’s Certificate with Superintendent or Principal Endorsement ( or ability to gain certification by July 2011)
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Education Administration, or related field
  • Experience in Educational Management or Administration
  • Strong, persuasive written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to Harbor and IB methodology
  • Ability to oversee a K-12 curriculum
  • Clear Criminal Justice Fingerprint and Background check
  • Citizenship in the United States
Other Desired Characteristics:
  • Previous K-12 school administration experience
  • Experience in public charter schools
  • Knowledge of Harbor and International Baccalaureate programs
